Wherever possible, we also aim to make future maintenance as straightforward and accessible, ensuring that work carried out today helps support the long-term reliability of your engine.

Our workshop is equipped with a range of machinery and specialist tools, allowing us to carry out both repair and component manufacturing processes to a high standard. This enables us to undertake work efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on quality, accuracy and attention to detail.

Alongside repairs and overhauls, we provide a comprehensive range of routine maintenance services to help keep your miniature steam engine in excellent working condition. This includes general servicing, boiler washouts, descaling and smaller maintenance tasks such as replacing oil wicks, through to more extensive boiler descales and servicing requirements.

Winter Servicing

Winter servicing is one of the popular services we provide at L.R. Crowther Heritage Engineering. Preparing your engine correctly during the winter months can help protect it from corrosion, ensure components remain in good condition, and have it ready for the season ahead.

Our winter servicing can include:

Boiler washouts and thorough cleaning.
Wire brushing of the smokebox and firebox.
Oiling exposed boiler platework to help prevent rust and corrosion.
Descaling and servicing injectors.
Removing and storing components that we recommend keeping warm and dry throughout the winter.

We also regularly replace older or problematic injectors with Holroyd injectors, which are highly regarded for their quality and performance. The Steam Workshop supplies a wide range of high-quality injectors that we are experienced in working with.

Crowther Heritage Engineering can guide you through the selection, ordering and fitting process. We also keep a selection of injectors available for temporary use, allowing you to try an alternative before committing to a purchase.

Boiler Inspection & Test Preparation

We provide pre- and post-boiler inspection work to help ensure your engine is properly prepared for its boiler examination and testing.

From carrying out the necessary preparation work to addressing individual requirements identified during an inspection, we can help get your engine ready for testing. We can also assist with hydraulic test preparation, including the manufacture of suitable blanking plates where required.

We work closely with boiler inspectors to help ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible and that the necessary work is completed correctly. If you have your own preferred boiler inspector, we are equally happy to work alongside them and can coordinate the required preparation to help give you peace of mind throughout the process.
